A special offer: two reports for the price of one! After the Hackney Village game I handed over the score book for the following game, since I would be missing. And I did not play in the North Kildare game, so what do I know about it? Nevertheless, it is not unknown for me to give opinions on things I know absolutely nothing about, so reader read on…

A brief summary only: we lost by 8 wickets and then won by 8 wickets. The difference? Possibly that I captained the first game, Hubert the second. That gives Hubert two wins out of two. Time for me to get worried…but of course it was an easier game and he had a better team and the weather was better and..and..

Actually what was worrying was that Cavaliers beat Hackney by 8 wickets the following day, though it did follow a late night in Temple Bar. Anyway, after their heroics of saving drowning children from the Liffey, who would begrudge them a win?

Against Hackney a great start was thrown away in a usual collapse that saw only Cameron Ruddock offering very much down the order, whilst our bowling, which started pretty tight, gradually unravelled. End of story.

Hubert gleefully informed me that we “put North Kildare to the sword!”. And so we did. Only 10 men, following a late withdrawal, but packed with quality, we lost just  2 wickets-and they were run outs, which is why no N.Kildare bowling stats are highlighted above There were loads of “Retireds” in what looks a very convincing batting performance. Shane’s 41 included four 6s and was achieved in “about 3 overs”, according to Hubert.

Lots of good bowling, too, with guesting Stuart Hayes the pick of them with 4 for 22, but with Kevin Threadgold’s 2-30 off 7 notable also and Bill Hobbs, Cathal Mahon and TP all picking up a wicket each. Well done lads- but it will be business as usual next week when I am back in charge!
