Begorrah! We bate the Leprechauns ! The first time in 6 years-Magic!
The toss is a game we play. If Charles Lysaght wins, they bat; if I win, they bat. They batted. We were one short- but I will name no names over the mix-up, Tim. As we fielded I tried for an 11th- it being a matter of honour not to be short. Gavin Dunne answered the Mayday call: he was in Dublin- but would join us at 5pm, in time for our innings.
Our bowling was tight and their progress slow. Dougie Burns and Lyngard Goulding scored the runs, but were  painstaking, whilst around them wickets fell. Charlie Butler upped the tempo, but was caught whilst Michael Carson and Tony Kerr added  spice but came in too late as Charles (no doubt miffed by his duck) declared. He  later claimed that he declared too early, but to be fair they had 39 overs whilst we would have managed only 34 even if we had used them all. Mathew and Monty shouldered the burden of the bowling well, but Bill Hobbs, John Brown, myself and Jeremy Kemp chipped in usefully.

We got off to a flying start with Iain Walker’s 56 ,though he did complain about my LBW decision against him.  It was time to give someone else a bat anyway- and this is the man who,on the winning side in the BBQ, still rang me  to complain that his team were discriminated against in selection! Luckily Hubert took the game on and hit a very classy 44. Mathew Sunil held the crease with a very nice 22 until I went in with less than 3 overs to go and 10 needed to win.. Gavin, a White Knight to the rescue had just arrived by 7pm (!) to give us 11( and save my honour) as I took the crease. However, he was not needed . Fairy dust had been sprinkled and three blows (4,4,2) by me and we had found the pot of gold and won with 2 overs to spare.
